Gone In The Night

The painting is called "Gone in the Night" it is an acrylic painting that depicts a girl on her back crying and holding a rose in a bleeding hand. I created texture in this painting by making the stars in the night sky studs of white paint. the blood and the tears are streams of paint that have been dripped so they dry like the fluids that they represent. the hair has streaks of black and grey to give both texture and depth. Lastly, there are wisps or dark grey in the black night to simulate wind.

The only colours in the painting are the red of the rose and blood and the blue of the tears. This is to bring more attention to the fact that she is crying, bleeding, and the rose petals that are flying away in the night wind. The girl in the painting is very pale signifying a loss or losing of life. I chose the colours blue and red because they help make each other pop out while not clashing like contrasting colours. I believe that both colours as they are used help bring out emotions of pain and sadness. The red blood, nails, and rose give a feeling of pain while the blue tears signify sadness.

I am trying to make a feeling of loss with the audience between the pail girl crying and the rose petals flying away. Both are a loss of life in one case or another, whether that be a person or a flower.
